Product detailed description
A good chef's knife deserves care before it starts subtly squashing a tomato instead of slicing it. The large Opinel natural stone restores the blade to top condition in a classic way that worked long before sharpeners with wheels, springs and batteries.
Main advantages:
- The large Opinel natural sharpening stone offers a sufficiently long working surface for convenient and regular sharpening of various knife types.
- The natural stone comes from the French department of Ariège in the Pyrenees, where material suitable for fine sharpening is quarried.
- It is made of schistous sandstone with a fine grit that helps restore a sharp and efficient knife edge.
- The length of 14 cm provides more working surface than compact travel stones and makes it easier to guide longer blades during sharpening.
- You can use the stone for folding, kitchen, table and garden knives, as well as for other tools with a smooth edge.
- It is also suitable for rounded-tip knives whose curved blade simply needs to be guided smoothly over the surface of the stone.
- Before sharpening, soak the stone in water for a few minutes so its pores do not become clogged with dust and steel particles.
- When sharpening, hold the blade at an angle of approximately 20° and smoothly guide the entire edge from heel to tip.
- With regular maintenance, a few even strokes on each side of the blade are usually enough to restore its edge.
- Once a fine burr forms, remove it with lighter strokes and finish by gently running the edge from both sides.
- Work carefully when sharpening polished or black surface-treated blades, as their surface can be damaged more easily.
- After each use, rinse the stone with clean water, let it dry thoroughly, and then store it in a dry place.
- The natural sharpening stone has a very long lifespan, but it is fragile and can break if dropped on a hard surface.
- The large sharpening stone is also part of the complete Opinel Maintenance Kit designed for regular knife care.
